Concept of Adl in Islam

Concept of Adl in Islam

RELATED READING BOOKS

Adl (Arabic: عَدْل) is an Islamic concept that encompasses justice, fairness, and equity. It is one of the most important values in Islam, and it is mentioned in the Quran on many occasions.

The Quran defines adl as "doing what is right and just, and giving each person his or her due." It also says that adl is the foundation of all good things and that it is the path to paradise.

Adl is not just about treating others fairly, but it is also about treating oneself fairly. It means being honest with oneself, and not deceiving oneself into thinking that something is right when it is wrong.

Adl is also about being fair to others in our thoughts, words, and actions. It means not judging others harshly, and not being quick to anger. It also means being kind and compassionate to others, even to those who have wronged us.

Adl is a difficult concept to live up to, but it is one that we should strive for in all aspects of our lives. When we practice adl, we are not only doing what is right, but we are also making the world a better place.

Here are some examples of adl in Islam:

·         The Quran says that we should "judge with justice, even if it is against yourselves or your parents." (4:135)

·         The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that "the best of people are those who are the most just." (Bukhari)

·         Adl is one of the pillars of justice in Islam, along with hurma (protection of human rights) and maslaha (public interest).

Adl is an important concept in Islam because it is the foundation of a just and fair society. When people practice adl, they are creating a world where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. This is a world that is closer to the vision of Allah (God), and it is a world that we should all strive to create.
