English satellite based Mass educational DTV channels sponsored by Indian State as well as central governments

India operates several satellite-based Direct-to-Home (DTH) mass educational TV channels sponsored by the Central Government and various State Governments. The medium of instruction across these channels includes English, Hindi, and regional languages.

Key Central Government Initiatives

• SWAYAM Prabha: 40 DTH channels broadcasting 24/7 educational content uplinked from BISAG-N (GSAT-15 satellite). The higher education channels (IITs, UGC, CEC, NPTEL, IGNOU) heavily utilize English for university-level science, engineering, arts, and commerce curricula.
• PM eVIDYA ("One Class, One Channel"): Expanded from 12 original channels to a network of 200 DTH channels covering school education (Classes 1–12) and competitive exams in English, Hindi, and regional languages.
• Gyan Darshan: 2 educational TV channels operated by IGNOU and Doordarshan broadcasting telecourses primarily in English and Hindi.
